My work is about the drama of the indifference of existence. Whether you approach it through philosophy or through a diet, in the end you always draw the short straw
–Erwin Wurm

For more than two decades, the Austrian artist Erwin Wurm (1954) has surprised a wide international audience with his absurd and paradoxical sculptural interventions in public space. In the 1990s, he attracted great attention with his One Minute Sculptures, which invite the viewer to interact with everyday objects such as chairs, clothes or cleaning products in absurd positions, in order to become a supporting part of the performative-sculptural installation themselves. Other striking works by the artist are his bizarrely stretched, bent houses, ships and cars in original size, which stage a distorted and satirical view of bourgeois status symbols.

Erwin Wurm's works often use a simple popular cultural imagery that indicates a broad, light and playful accessibility. But as satirical artistic pitfalls, the works also surprise the audience with an alternative and sometimes cynical focus on everyday banalities and our always blurred perceptions of reality. The exhibition at Museum Jorn presents a selection of partly spectacular installations that provide an insight into Erwin Wurm's humorous and subtle aesthetic universe.
