"I started to use clothes early in my work because it was cheap and accessible. I lived above a thrift store… I realized then that from a sculptural perspective, they are as a second skin, a protective shell defining volume surfaces. When one looks at old sculptures from the Roman or the Greek period, one sees massive bodies of horses, athletes, Gods and Goddesses. Their robust volumes are in fact defined by only a thin layer of bronze skin. Like an empty garment. 
Clothes are also a tool to raise contemporary social and psychological questions. They represent a more universal image of human beings: the body, the spirit, the mind, the identity issues and all the elements which create a person."
